What is Otoplasty?

Give your ears a smaller, more balanced look with otoplasty. Otoplasty, or ear pinning, is an ear reshaping surgery to correct external ear deformations or asymmetries. The goal of otoplasty is typically a reduction of excessively protruding ears to achieve overall facial balance.

Incisions are placed behind the ear and heal inconspicuously with little scarring. Sutures in the cartilage are placed to help achieve the desired permanent result.

Recovery After

Because full growth of the ears is complete in childhood, otoplasty may be performed in children as young as 5 or 6, usually under general anesthesia. In adults, otoplasty may be performed with only local anesthesia with or without sedation. A molded dressing is worn for three days, and suture removal is completed by the 10th day.

Like rhinoplasty and many other facial procedures, there is often a significant psychological benefit and enhanced self-esteem from a well-done otoplasty. A consultant is required; costs and other factors will be discussed at that time.
